Do you need to know how to care for an orchid you just received? Do you need advice for an orchid that “looks sad”? Do you want to learn more about these unique flowering plants? Then, please join us! We meet every other month at 7:00 pm at the Butte County Library Conference Room, 1178 Sherman Avenue, Chico, CA.
Our programs vary. We host speakers with expertise in orchid biology, care, diseases, and growth. The club is a member of the American Orchid Society and provides programs on many varied topics. We also host clinics where you can bring in a “sad” plant for a diagnosis and hopeful cure. As part of our meeting we have “Show and Tell”.. members bring in their plants for display. Always a treat to see which plants others have bloomed!!
On the months that we do not meet, we do plan an event. It may be a repotting session, a visit to a greenhouse/grower, or carpooling to an orchid show. In December we have a Christmas dinner where Santa arrives with an orchid for each member. In the summer, we host a potluck and orchid auction with plants purchased by the Club. This summer event is a fundraiser as well as a way to increase your collection!
Our yearly dues are only $25 per family. Newsletters are regularly sent to members with upcoming events, and monthly advice on fertilizing, watering, etc. for various types of orchids. For example: “Do I fertilize when a plant is in flower or after flowering?”
